Met-L-Chek — VP-30 Aerosol Washable Visible Penetrant

Overview

The Met-L-Chek VP-30 is a visible dye penetrant designed for detecting surface-breaking discontinuities in nonporous materials. Its contrasting red color allows indications to be evaluated under suitable white-light conditions without requiring a UV-A inspection lamp.

VP-30 supports both Method A water-washable and Method C solvent-removable inspection procedures. During testing, the penetrant enters cracks, laps, seams, porosity, and other surface-open discontinuities through capillary action. After excess penetrant is removed and a compatible developer is applied, retained penetrant bleeds back to the surface and produces visible red indications.

Supplied as a case of 12 aerosol cans, each containing 16 oz / 400 mL, SKU 29224-0001 provides a practical solution for field inspections, fabrication facilities, maintenance departments, welding operations, and industrial QA/QC programs.

Application Guidelines

• Clean the inspection surface thoroughly before applying penetrant

• Remove paint, scale, oil, grease, and other contamination as required

• Allow the surface to dry completely

• Shake the aerosol can before application

• Apply enough VP-30 to fully wet the inspection area

• Allow the specified penetrant dwell time

• Remove excess penetrant using the selected Method A or Method C procedure

• Avoid excessive washing or cleaning that could remove penetrant from discontinuities

• Dry the surface when required

• Apply a compatible white developer

• Allow the specified development time

• Inspect under the required white-light conditions

• Clean the component after inspection when required
