The MET-L-CHEK R-503 Cleaner / Remover is a high-quality, non-petroleum based solvent designed for effective pre-cleaning of surfaces prior to non-destructive testing (NDT) and for the removal of excess penetrant during liquid penetrant inspection (LPI). This product is available in a convenient case of 12 aerosol cans, each containing 16 fluid ounces (400 ml).
As a Class 2 (non-halogenated) remover, R-503 is formulated to be low in sulfur, chlorine, fluorine, and other halogens, making it safe for use on sensitive materials such as titanium and high-nickel alloys commonly found in aerospace, medical, and nuclear components. Its moderate evaporation rate is ideal for both wiping applications and pre-cleaning by direct spray.
R-503 is specifically designed for use in the solvent wipe technique (Method C) of penetrant inspection. It is sprayed onto a wiping cloth and used to carefully remove excess penetrant from the test surface without flushing penetrant from discontinuities. It can also be sprayed directly onto the surface for effective pre-inspection cleaning to remove dirt, oil, grease, and other contaminants that could interfere with the penetrant testing process.
This cleaner/remover is qualified to AMS-2644, a widely recognized aerospace material specification for penetrant inspection materials, ensuring its high performance and reliability.
