Penetrant Inspection Kit, 1 - VP-30, 2 - E-59A, 1 - D-70, Met-L-Chek
This Met-L-Chek Penetrant Inspection Kit provides all the essential materials for performing a high-quality Liquid Penetrant Inspection (LPI) using the visible, solvent-removable (or water-washable with solvent cleaner) method. It's an ideal portable solution for field inspections, workshops, or educational purposes, designed to detect surface-breaking discontinuities in non-porous materials.
Kit Components & Their Role:
1 x VP-30 Visible Penetrant:
Function: This is a red, visible dye penetrant that seeps into surface-breaking flaws through capillary action.
Method: It is a Method A (Water Washable) penetrant, meaning excess penetrant can be removed by water rinse. However, it's also highly compatible with solvent removal (Method C) for controlled application or where water is not feasible.
Benefits: Provides clear, vibrant red indications that are easily visible under normal white light, requiring no UV lamp.
2 x E-59A Solvent Remover:
Function: A fast-drying solvent cleaner/remover.
Role in Kit: While VP-30 is water washable, E-59A serves as a versatile cleaner for pre-cleaning the inspection surface to remove oils, grease, and contaminants before penetrant application. It can also be used for controlled, localized removal of excess penetrant (Method C), particularly beneficial in situations where a water wash might be too aggressive or impractical. It's also suitable for post-cleaning after inspection.
1 x D-70 Non-Aqueous Wet Developer:
Function: A white, opaque developer applied after penetrant removal. It draws the penetrant out of discontinuities, creating a vivid, magnified indication.
Method:Form D (Non-Aqueous Wet Developer). This developer consists of fine white particles suspended in a volatile solvent. The solvent evaporates quickly, leaving a uniform coating that enhances flaw visibility.
Benefits: Provides excellent contrast against the red penetrant, ensuring clear and sharp indications of flaws.
Kit Features & Benefits:
Complete LPI Solution: Contains all three critical components (penetrant, remover, developer) for a comprehensive visible penetrant inspection.
High Sensitivity: Designed to detect minute, surface-breaking cracks, porosity, laps, seams, and other discontinuities.
Visible Indication: Provides bright red indications on a white background (with D-70), easily viewable under white light, simplifying inspection and reducing equipment needs.
Versatile Application: Suitable for a wide range of non-porous materials, including metals, ceramics, and some plastics.
Portability: Typically supplied in convenient smaller containers (e.g., aerosol cans or 1-pint bottles), making it easy to transport and use in various field or workshop environments.
Industry Compliant: Met-L-Chek products are formulated to meet or exceed major industry specifications for LPI, including:
ASTM E-165 / ASTM E-1417 (Standard Practice for LPI)
ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section V
ISO 3452-2 (Non-destructive testing - Penetrant testing)
AMS-2644 (Aerospace Material Specification for Penetrant Materials)
Trusted Manufacturer: Met-L-Chek is a globally recognized leader in NDT consumables, ensuring consistent quality and performance.
