Cygnus — Probe T5B-MAUH 5MHz Twin Element (High Temperature)
SKU: 004-9561 | Cable Not Included
Overview
The Cygnus T5B-MAUH is a high-performance, 5MHz twin element (dual crystal) ultrasonic probe engineered for high-temperature, in-service thickness measurements and corrosion surveys in some of the world's most demanding industrial environments. As the most versatile probe in Cygnus Instruments' twin crystal lineup, the T5B-MAUH is the go-to choice for inspectors working across oil and gas, refining, energy, and process sectors — where accurate wall thickness data on hot, corroded, or coated surfaces is critical.
Unlike standard probes that require a component to be taken offline and cooled before inspection, the T5B-MAUH can measure directly on hot surfaces without any cooling period — reducing downtime, improving inspection efficiency, and enabling continuous in-service monitoring.
Please note: Cable is not included with this probe. Compatible cables are available separately — see the accessories section below.
Twin Crystal Design — Why It Matters
The T5B-MAUH features separate transmitting and receiving crystal elements — the defining characteristic of a twin (dual) element probe. This configuration delivers significant advantages over single crystal probes in corrosion inspection scenarios:
- Superior performance on corroded and pitted back walls — the twin crystal design excels where irregular back wall surfaces would cause a single crystal probe to struggle or produce unreliable readings
- Echo-Echo mode — measures through coatings up to 20mm (0.8 inch) thick without requiring their removal, eliminating the time and cost of coating removal
- Single-Echo mode — for direct, fast measurements on bare, uncoated materials
- Reduced near-surface dead zone — enables reliable readings closer to the surface than single element probes
High Temperature Performance
The MAUH designation distinguishes this probe as Cygnus' dedicated high-temperature variant of the T5B series. Key high-temperature capabilities include:
- Maximum surface temperature: 300°C / 572°F — suitable for in-service inspection of hot pipework, vessels, and process equipment without shutting down
- No cooling period required — contact the hot surface, take the reading, move on
- Exceptional wear resistance — the probe face is built to withstand repeated contact with rough, hot, and abrasive surfaces
- High temperature couplant compatible — for use with Cygnus High Temperature Couplant (SKU: 001-3735, rated -45°C to 412°C)
