Overview

Met-L-Chek E-59 is an aerosol cleaner and penetrant remover designed for professional liquid penetrant testing. It can be used for pre-inspection surface cleaning and for removing excess penetrant during compatible Method C solvent-removable inspection procedures.

The ready-to-use aerosol format supports controlled application in field, shop, fabrication, maintenance, and QA/QC environments. During excess-penetrant removal, E-59 is typically applied to a clean, lint-free cloth rather than sprayed directly onto the inspection surface, helping technicians control background removal and reduce the risk of flushing penetrant from discontinuities.

Supplied as a case of 12 aerosol cans, E-59 is suitable for inspection teams evaluating welds, castings, forgings, machined components, and other nonporous materials for surface-breaking discontinuities.

Application Guidelines

For Pre-Inspection Cleaning

• Remove heavy rust, scale, paint, and loose contamination when required

• Apply E-59 to the inspection surface or to a clean, lint-free cloth

• Wipe the area until oil, grease, dirt, and removable residue are eliminated

• Repeat the cleaning process when necessary

• Allow the surface to dry completely before applying penetrant

For Excess Penetrant Removal

• Allow the specified penetrant dwell time to be completed

• Remove the initial excess penetrant with a clean, dry, lint-free cloth

• Apply a small amount of E-59 to a separate clean cloth

• Gently wipe the surface until excessive background penetrant is removed

• Replace contaminated cloths as required

• Avoid saturating the surface with remover

• Do not overclean or flush penetrant from discontinuities

• Allow the component to dry before developer application

Direct spraying onto the inspection surface during Method C removal should only be performed when specifically permitted by the applicable procedure.
