The Met-L-Chek E-57 Emulsifier, supplied in a 55-gallon (208-liter) drum, is a crucial component in the post-emulsifiable liquid penetrant testing (LPT) process, also known as dye penetrant inspection (DPI). This large volume is intended for high-volume industrial applications where post-emulsifiable penetrants are used for enhanced sensitivity in detecting surface-breaking flaws.
In the post-emulsifiable method, a lipophilic (oil-loving) penetrant is applied to the test surface. After the penetrant dwell time, the excess penetrant is not directly water-washable. Instead, an emulsifier like E-57 is applied. The emulsifier reacts with the oily penetrant, making the mixture water-washable. This allows for a more thorough removal of background penetrant with a water spray, while the penetrant trapped in discontinuities remains.
The 55-gallon (208-liter) drum is the standard industrial packaging for bulk liquids, typically made of steel or durable plastic. This volume provides an economical solution for facilities with significant usage of post-emulsifiable penetrant systems.
Key Characteristics and Functions:
Post-Emulsifier: Specifically designed to emulsify lipophilic liquid penetrants, making them water-washable.
Enhances Sensitivity: Allows for more effective removal of background penetrant compared to water-washable penetrants, leading to higher sensitivity in flaw detection.
Compatible with Lipophilic Penetrants: Formulated to work with Met-L-Chek's range of post-emulsifiable penetrants.
Large Volume Packaging: The 55-gallon drum is ideal for high-volume industrial users.
Applications:
Post-Emulsifiable Liquid Penetrant Testing (LPT) / Dye Penetrant Inspection (DPI) in high-volume industrial settings.
