SCANRAY® 1043F — Flexible Portable Wireless Digital Radiography System
Complete Field Package | SKU: SCANRAY1043F
Overview
The SCANRAY® 1043F is a cutting-edge flexible (bendable) portable wireless digital radiography (DR) system — the larger of two models in the innovative SCANRAY F series, engineered by DR Systems to revolutionize industrial radiographic testing of pipes and curved structures. Where conventional flat-panel detectors produce image distortion on curved surfaces and traditional film or computed radiography (CR) plates demand lengthy processing times and consumable replenishment, the SCANRAY® 1043F eliminates all of these limitations in a single, field-ready package.
Designed specifically for 12–20 inch (300–500 mm) diameter pipe inspection, the 1043F's flexible detecting unit conforms directly to the curved surface of the pipe — eliminating the geometric distortion inherent in flat detectors placed against round objects and delivering sharp, accurate, distortion-free radiographic images in a single exposure. With its 99 µm pixel pitch, wireless operation, IP67 protection, and comprehensive ready-to-use package, the SCANRAY® 1043F sets a new standard for speed, quality, and convenience in pipeline weld inspection. Everything required to begin inspecting immediately is included straight out of the box.

The Flexible Detector Advantage
Traditional flat-panel digital detectors are rigid — when placed against a curved pipe surface, the gap between the detector and the weld creates geometric image distortion that can mask or misrepresent defect indications. Film and phosphoric CR plates solved this problem through flexibility, but introduced significant drawbacks: lengthy darkroom processing, dependence on consumables, and slow inspection throughput.
The SCANRAY® 1043F solves all of this simultaneously:
- Bends to conform directly to the pipe surface — eliminating the air gap and geometric distortion caused by flat detectors on curved objects
- No consumables — unlike film or CR plates, the 1043F detector is fully reusable with no processing chemicals or plate replacement required
- Instant results — images are transmitted wirelessly to the operator's tablet or laptop in real time, with no darkroom, no processing wait, and no scanning step
- Unbent operation — when inspecting smaller diameter objects, the detector can also be used in its flat, unbent position for Double Wall Double Image (DWDI) or Double Wall Single Image (DWSI) techniques, covering the full range of industrial pipe sizes
SCANRAY F Series — Model Comparison
| Model | Recommended Pipe Diameter | Active Area | Pixel Matrix | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SCANRAY® 1025F | 6 – 12 in (150 – 300 mm) | 98 × 250 mm (3.9 × 9.8 in) | 988 × 2524 px | 1.5 kg / 3.3 lb |
| SCANRAY® 1043F — This Product | 12 – 20 in (300 – 500 mm) | 98 × 427 mm (3.9 × 16.8 in) | 988 × 4316 px | 1.7 kg / 3.7 lb |
The 1043F's longer active area makes it the preferred choice for medium to large diameter pipeline inspection, capturing a wider arc of the pipe circumference in a single exposure and reducing the number of shots required to complete a full weld inspection.
DR-SOFT® Software
The SCANRAY® 1043F ships with DR-SOFT® pre-installed on both the included ruggedized laptop and ruggedized tablet, with pre-made calibrations already configured for immediate start of operation. DR-SOFT® is DR Systems' proprietary radiographic image acquisition and evaluation software. Key capabilities include:
- Real-time image display immediately after each exposure
- Image enhancement, annotation, and measurement tools
- DICONDE-format image storage for secure archiving and remote transmission
- Immediate post-exposure evaluation — no darkroom, no waiting, no film processing
- Remote image transmission to a separate evaluation station for multi-site workflows
- Pre-installed calibrations — ready to inspect from the moment the system is unpacked
System Highlights
True Plug-and-Play Inspection Pre-installed software and pre-made calibrations mean inspectors can begin working immediately upon arrival on site — no setup time, no separate licensing, no missing accessories.
Eliminates Image Distortion on Curved Surfaces The flexible detector conforms directly to the pipe surface, closing the air gap that causes geometric distortion with flat detectors — delivering accurate, undistorted weld images every time.
Replaces Film and CR Plates Entirely No consumables, no processing chemicals, no darkroom, no scanning — the 1043F delivers all the flexibility of film and CR with the instant digital results of a modern DR system.
Wireless Operation Images are transmitted in real-time from the detector to the operator's tablet or laptop via Wi-Fi, allowing the operator to remain safely outside the radiation exclusion zone. An additional Wi-Fi module is included to extend wireless range in challenging environments.
24/7 Continuous Inspection Two full sets of batteries with charger ensure uninterrupted operation across extended inspection campaigns or multi-shift pipeline construction projects.
Ultra-Lightweight Detector At just 1.7 kg (3.7 lb), the 1043F detector is one of the lightest in the entire SCANRAY range — making it easy to wrap, position, and secure around pipe surfaces in any orientation.
Drop and Impact Protection The included universal protective cover protects the detector from accidental drops of up to 2 meters (6.6 feet) and mechanical impacts during on-site handling.
High-Temperature Inspection The included heat-resistant blanket allows the detector to be used on hot pipe surfaces up to 250°C (482°F) without any cooling period.
Zero Data Loss The detector's internal memory stores images locally when the wireless connection to the operator's station is interrupted. No images are ever lost during a working shift.
