The Dakota NDT PR-9 is a precision ultrasonic thickness tester designed specifically for the racing industry. Engine builders, machine shops, car builders and sanctioning bodies use it to quickly and accurately measure and map cylinder walls, decks, head ports, chassis tubing, body panels and windshields.
Its dual-element probe can detect hidden corrosion or deterioration on the blind surface in the water jacket before any boring begins. Combined with 100 readings per second scanning and three calibration options for cast materials, the PR-9 helps builders make confident boring and sleeving decisions.
Key Features
Map a cylinder in seconds
High-speed scan takes 100 measurements per second. Drag the probe from the bottom of the cylinder up to the deck at a given clock position to find the minimum thickness, then switch scan off to locate the exact spot.
Find hidden water jacket corrosion
The dual-element probe detects corrosion and deterioration on the blind surface inside the water jacket, before any machining is done.
Three calibration options
Calibrate to any material with single-point, two-point or target velocity calibration for increased accuracy on cast iron, aluminum and other block and head materials.
Backlit display with repeatability bar
The backlit 4.5-digit LCD updates at 10 Hz and stays readable in dim shops and engine bays. A bar graph shows the repeatability of each measurement.
Racing-specific probes
Use Dakota dual-element transducers from 1 to 10 MHz, including dedicated cylinder wall and NHRA chassis tubing probes, each with a 4 ft cable.

Complete your engine shop setup
Add the T-104-2120 cylinder wall probe or the T-101-400 NHRA chassis tubing probe, whichever isn't in your kit, plus extra couplant, a reference sample of your block material for calibration, and a protective rubber boot for small-body Dakota gauges.
