MET-L-CHEK D-70 Nonaqueous Developer (1 Gallon / 3.7 Liters) is a high-sensitivity, solvent-based developer used in penetrant testing (PT) to enhance the visibility of surface-breaking flaws. This Form "d" developer is designed for use with fluorescent penetrants (Type 1), while it functions as a Form "e" developer when paired with visible penetrants (Type 2).
Applied after the excess penetrant has been removed and the test surface has been dried, D-70 creates a thin, uniform white coating. The solvent action of this developer draws the penetrant to the surface through capillary action, resulting in clearer and more defined indications of discontinuities such as cracks, porosity, and leaks. This makes even very fine flaws easier to detect during inspection.
Key Selling Points:
High Sensitivity: Enhances the visibility of even the finest surface flaws.
Versatile Compatibility: Suitable for use with both fluorescent and visible penetrants.
Nonaqueous Formula: Solvent-based for optimal penetrant pull-out.
Uniform White Coating: Provides an ideal background for both fluorescent and visible indications.
Approved to Industry Standards: Meets requirements of AMS 2644 and other relevant specifications (e.g., Boeing, ISO 3452).
Safe for Use on Most Metals: Low in sulfur, sodium, chlorine, fluorine, and other halogens, making it safe for titanium and high-nickel alloys.
Benefits:
Improved Flaw Detection: Increases the probability of detecting critical surface defects.
Clearer Indications: Makes interpretation of test results easier and more reliable.
Wide Range of Applications: Suitable for various industries, including aerospace, welding, automotive, and general manufacturing.
Ensures Compatibility: Approved for use with commonly specified penetrant testing procedures.
Safe for Critical Materials: Can be used on sensitive alloys without risk of corrosion or contamination.
Physical Properties:
Form: Milky liquid with white sediment (requires agitation before use).
Color: Dries to a smooth white coating.
Flash Point: 11.6°C (54°F) - Flammable; use with caution and away from ignition sources.
Density: 851 g/L
VOC Content: Typically around 710-750 g/L (check the specific Material Safety Data Sheet - SDS).
Removability: Easily removed with water.
Applications:
Enhancing indications from fluorescent and visible penetrants.
Weld inspection in shipbuilding and repairs.
Heat exchanger inspection (through-leak method).
Locating oil and gas leaks in automotive components.
General metalworking, aerospace, medical, and nuclear component inspection.
Reducing glare in 3D laser scanning of shiny surfaces.
As a temporary marker in assembly processes.
