The Dakota NDT ZX-2 is an easy-to-operate pulse-echo thickness gauge that needs no special training. It measures wall thickness and the extent of corrosion in pipes, tanks, plates and other objects, and its dual-element design locates blind-surface pitting and internal flaws.
The ZX-2 adds a selectable material list to the basic ZX design, so inspectors who work on several materials can pick the right one in seconds instead of entering velocities by hand. Velocity is also fully adjustable for any other material. Built to withstand the roughest industry conditions, it's backed by Dakota's 5-year limited warranty.

Selectable material list
Choose from a built-in list of common materials for fast setup when you move between steel, aluminum, plastics and other materials. It's ideal for maintenance teams and job shops that test a mix of parts.
Adjustable material velocity
For materials not on the list, adjust the velocity on the keypad anywhere from 305 to 18,542 m/s.
Strong signal, accurate readings
120 MHz FPGA timing and a 150 V square wave pulser drive dual-element transducers from 1 to 10 MHz. Automatic V-path correction delivers readings accurate to ±0.001" (±0.01 mm).
Cold-weather display
The custom low-temperature LCD stays readable down to -30°C (-22°F), showing thickness, velocity, a stability indicator, battery level and units.
Built for the roughest conditions
An extruded aluminum body with gasket-sealed, nickel-plated end caps is IP65 rated, and the sealed membrane keypad resists water and petroleum products.
45-hour battery life
Two AA cells, either alkaline, NiCad or lithium, give around 45 hours of continuous use.
Certified accuracy
Every ZX-2 is factory calibrated, traceable to NIST and MIL-STD-45662A standards.
