The ULSO Standard Wedge is a meticulously designed component specifically engineered to facilitate accurate angle beam phased-array ultrasonic testing (PAUT) inspections when used with A1 type phased-array probes. This wedge is designed to precisely direct ultrasonic shear waves into steel test materials at a 55-degree refracted angle, a standard and effective configuration for detecting and characterizing various weld defects.
This wedge is optimized for normal scan applications, ensuring a reliable and consistent interface between the A1 phased-array probe and the test piece. The 55-degree refracted shear wave angle is particularly effective for detecting and characterizing common weld discontinuities such as cracks, lack of fusion, and porosity.
The "FLAT" designation signifies that the wedge's contact surface is flat, providing a stable and uniform coupling with the test material. This flat surface is essential for ensuring consistent beam propagation and accurate data acquisition.
Constructed from high-quality materials, the ULSO Standard Wedge delivers exceptional acoustic properties and durability. Its design minimizes signal attenuation and optimizes the transmission of shear waves, contributing to the accuracy and reliability of PAUT inspections.
Manufactured or supplied by ULSO, a trusted provider of NDT solutions, this wedge adheres to stringent quality standards, ensuring compatibility and dependable performance with A1 type phased-array probes across a range of PAUT systems.
Advantages
Available in standard refracted angles of 0°, 45°, 55°, and 60° in steel for angle-beam inspections from 30° to 70°, SW or LW
Stainless steel screw receptacles provide a firm anchoring of probes to wedges.
Lateral electronic scanning replaces the hand-skewing movement (with lateral wedges).
The IHC wedge option can be ordered to improve the quality of the inspection: irrigation, mounting holes for the wedge holder to work with any Olympus scanner, and carbide pins to increase wear resistance.
Wedges are designed to perform manual or automated scans.
Custom wedges with specific refracted angles can be ordered; wedge shape and contour can also be customized.
